Establishment
In 1997, it started education in our school with the Carpet Weaving Program. Carpet weaving program was renamed as Carpet and Rug Program in 2000 and was closed in 2007-2008 academic year. In the 2008-2009 academic year, the Traditional Handicrafts Program was opened under the Handicrafts department. In the 2009-2010 academic year, the evening education of the Traditional Handicrafts Program was opened.

Program Profile
The Traditional Handicrafts Program has a quota of 50 people. The program accepts students according to the TYT score to be taken from the YKS Exam conducted by OSYM. Students who have completed the Traditional Handicrafts Program can transfer to the relevant departments of the Faculty of Fine Arts and the relevant departments of the Design Faculties, if they are successful in the Vertical Transfer Exams (DGS). The aim of our program is to introduce our traditional handicrafts and try to keep them alive with practices. In addition, it is among our aims to contribute to the research and registration of local handicrafts especially in Kayseri and its surroundings. Below is information about the workshops conducted by our program:
Marbling workshop: It is the workshop where the art of marbling, which is one of the traditional arts, is practiced. Obtaining the earth dyes used in marbling by crushing, preparing the tragacanth, and making the art of marbling are done in this workshop.
Weaving workshop: In our workshop, weaving techniques such as carpet, rug, rug woven on a hand loom, «sumak», «çarpana» (broad belt), fabric, etc. are made. Calculations are made in order to apply carpet and other flat weaving techniques, the pattern is adjusted according to the calculations and the warp is untied. Weaving is started and the product is obtained. The final processes and quality control processes of the product are also carried out in this workshop.
Design workshop: Motif, pattern, color, composition studies, matting processes etc. of various art products such as Gilding, Tile, Calligraphy, Miniature, Carpet, Fabric, Rug, Rug woven on a hand loom, «Zili», «Sumak», «Çarpana» (broad belt), Stained glass etc. are carried out in this workshop. During the design, students can also benefit from lighted tables.
Training is given in the form of 2 years (4 semesters) in the Traditional Handicrafts Program. Students complete a compulsory industry-based learning (EDS) internship for 60 working days, 30 working days at the end of the first year and 30 working days at the end of the second year. At the end of the internship, students gain professional experience and get to know their workplaces. Theoretical knowledge learned at school is reinforced practically in businesses. Internship applications prepare students for business life.
Employment Profiles of Graduates
Graduated students can work as master trainers in handicraft courses affiliated with local governments and in prisons and rehabilitation centers. They can be employed as designers and quality control specialists in textile and carpet factories. They can work in art houses, hobby centers, antique houses, museums, auction halls. Those with entrepreneurial talent can open their own workshop or sell handicraft materials.

Our graduates from the program can continue their career journey in one of the following undergraduate fields with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS).
